Metastatic cascade and organ adaptation
We identify the programmes that enable dissemination, tissue entry and growth at distant metastatic sites.
Which transient and stable states allow tumour cells to complete different steps of the metastatic cascade?
Metastasis requires cancer cells to leave the primary tumour, survive circulation, enter distant tissues and adapt to unfamiliar microenvironments. Earlier work identified AXL as a regulator required at multiple steps of HER2-positive breast cancer progression.
The laboratory now integrates this mechanistic foundation with heterogeneous models to determine how metastatic traits are distributed among subclones and selected by distant organs.
